Ketchup: Condiment or Hidden Candy?

I could not believe my eyes when I first saw how much sugar ketchup contains.

These are the little things we sometimes overlook, but as they say, the Devil is in the details. Most people would agree that sodas are loaded with sugar. In fact, they are one of the first things that come to mind when we think about unhealthy food. The average can of soda is 12 fluid oz (approximately 355 mL) and contains around 40 grams of sugar. Ketchup, on the other hand, in the same amount of 12 fluid oz, contains almost 80 grams of sugar. Basically, twice as much. My first thought was, why does ketchup need that much sugar in the first place?

Conclusion

Even though we don't eat the whole bottle of ketchup at once, I've seen people putting a good dent in it. The scary part is that I used to have fries with ketchup all the time without worrying about it at all until very recently. At the end of the day, this adds up to my daily intake, and I have decided to skip ketchup completely.
